Gameloft brings the action from the blockbuster film The Dark Knight Rises to your iPhone, iPad and Android devices. After the tremendous success of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, it’s no surprise someone took the initiative to bring this action to the mobile scene. This is quite an ambitious title on such a platform. Rest assured you’ll get a lot for its very reasonable $7 admission price.
The first two things you’ll likely notice are the detailed graphics and mere scope of this mobile title. Players will experience a scaled down Arkham City full with skyscrapers to glide off of and enough thugs around to keep you entertained while you clean their clocks. Fans of the movie will be happy to hear it follows the script very closely. I want to avoid giving away any spoilers but it’s safe to say the game chapters are action packed. Gameloft also mixes it up throughout your crime fighting venture with stealth based mechanics for those that enjoy taking out their enemies by surprise.
The controls are one thing that usually limits titles such as this. However, Gameloft has done a great job in making it fairly easy and most importantly fun to fight and traverse your way through Gotham. The control scheme is simple and effective, giving players a single button for attack, one for your grappling hook and a third for jumping. If you happened to play Arkham Asylum or Arkham City previously, you’ll be up to speed quickly on the gaming mechanics. Be warned there are those rare times when the camera angle is flat out awkward, making combat difficult and frustrating. Overall however, the controls are excellent, especially when you consider it’s built around a touch screen interface.
